Why would anyone want to do this?  Everybody’s busy.  Besides that there are a million excellent causes to support.  There is legitimate need everywhere.  It might be easier to just send somebody a check or volunteer for a big organization trying to make big changes.  We certainly don’t want to dissuade you from helping another worthy cause but... Here’s why you might want to volunteer for the Gargoyle Project: *  You will change a life.  Not save thousands or make some big institutional change, but you will affect one real child in a very direct and personal way. *  You might save that life.  The children we serve have been given long odds to play against.  You can change those odds.  And what is the value of one life? *  The only way to show a child that there are good people in the world is to prove it over time.  You could teach this profound lesson just by showing up and giving a damn. *  You can do this much good giving only one day or so a month. *  Our system is set up for you to succeed.  You’re placed on a team that gives you the flexibility needed to make a long term commitment. *  We need money.  Any group does.  But our financial half is completely separate from our volunteers.  If you become a part of a child’s team we will cover all the monetary costs.  You will just give your time, energy, and love. *  We give you training and ongoing support at no cost to you. *  It might even be a lot of fun!  Call us and find out.

Getting Involved with Us There are four ways you can become involved at Realworld. Yes, you can do more than one! 1) Gargoyle Project Volunteer Corps- These committed volunteers make a long term, multiyear commitment to a child. Each child has a small group assigned to them in order to lessen the burden on any individual. Most children involve a monthly visit. All expenses are covered by Realworld. These kids can be very challenging so most of our volunteers are strong and independent people. For us, tolerance is not sufficient. We aggressively accept volunteers from all walks of life. All volunteers must do the following: pass a LiveScan background check, pass a series of personal interviews, and become Realworld Certified by attending our training sessions. 2) Somatic Integrity Sensei- Our Senseis go into institutions and group homes to teach the Somatic Integrity program. They are paid a small per class stipend. All of the following qualifications must be met or exceeded: a LiveScan background check, 5+ years experience in the Martial Arts, a familiarity with Tai Chi or Kata forms, a letter of recommendation from an active Martial Arts Teacher, Certification as a Somatic Integrity Sensei (at least 20 hours training with Angus). 3) Gargoyle Riders- This is a forming group of motorcycle riders who support the work of both Realworld and the Gargoyle Project. These activities include public awareness rides, fund raising, and security when needed. 4) Good Samaritans- Do you want to help in some other way? We’d be glad to have you. We need help in grant writing, fund raising, institutional outreach, and corporate solicitation. Or if you’d like to offer something else we’ll accept it with gratitude
